Diary of a Desperate Exmoor Woman is a blog written by a woman who writes novels. And she surely is an exceptional writer. Pick a random blog post, and you’ll feel just like you’re talking to a good friend over a hot cup of good coffee. What she writes is personal, yet anyone can relate to her stories. From her posts about relationships between parents and children, to her pictures of her adorable dogs, you will surely want to spend hours reading her posts. So grab a coffee roaster for hours of great reading.
Of course I had to ask if I could send a short interview her way. Here is the interview, and after reading this, go check out her wonderful blog!
Bizarrely enough, because I wanted to sell my house! I had this crazy idea that if I blogged about how wild and wonderful life on Exmoor was, some mad fool might buy it. Of course this didn’t happen but I then became hooked on the idea of blogging…
*Meeting* people and feedback because my ‘day job’ as a writer can be pretty lonely. I write books and features and work from home so it does feel as if I’m chattering to myself most of the time. A blog gets a pretty well instant response – and I love that. It’s also great when people like my writing or can relate to something I’ve written. I also do use it as a kind of self-therapy – I write myself out of depression and anxiety. Oh, and can’t forget that blogging has given me the opportunity to go to fabulous places like Disneyworld – and meet brilliant fellow bloggers.
I’ve written over 20 non-fiction books – mainly on natural health, wellbeing and self-help. Plus two fiction books for teens, which are still looking for the right publisher. I think my favourite non-fiction book is Spirit of the Home (Thorsons) – which is all about understanding why we choose the houses we do, and how to make home a sanctuary. But my love of loves is my (as yet unpublished) teen novel, Samael – a dark and spooky love story set in a very isolated moorland village. It’s got its own blog – http://samaelstory.blogspot.com
I got into journalism (through pure luck) when I was in my 20s and have been hugely fortunate in my career. A London literary agent noticed my features in the Daily Mail (a UK national newspaper) and suggested I write books…
As I said before, the blog was initially something I did on a whim. I had NO idea I would still be writing it years later! But it’s been hugely successful and people seem to like it (and I certainly enjoy writing it) so I suspect I’ll carry on until I get sick of the sound of my own voice.
I love finding humour and the ridiculous in everyday life. I also confess to a huge fondness for writing about spas and delicious therapies (but that could be because I have to test them out before I can write about them!). Finally I seem to have a fondness for writing about dogs – and chocolate.
